Entry requirements
Academic
A Bachelor of Science degree with a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 4.5 or more in third level courses that provide sufficient background for the proposed research project. Applicants from other institutions should have equivalent qualifications. In general, the Faculty of Science expect that Honours students should have completed their pass degree no more than two or three years before commencing Honours. If you completed your pass degree some time ago, a Graduate Diploma may be a more appropriate route to re-enter academic study.
Other
- Nomination of a supervisor and project.
- Students from non-english speaking backgrounds are required to satisfy the English requirments
- Complete the School of Biological Science online form. International students who are not current UQ students need to apply for admission and to enrol in the program through the International Education Directorate at UQ - International student application form. (International students must also complete a BIOL honours application form beacuse approval for entry into the program depends on the nomination of a supervisor and project)
Application procedures
We recommend that Honours candidates follow the procedure outlined below to find a supervisor and project prior to enrolment
- If unfamiliar with the research interests and expertise visit the Research themes section of the School website. This site has information on major research strengths of the School and research interests of individual staff members. The Honours research projects section will also give your an idea of the research opportunities available within the School.
- Contact staff members to discuss:
- a suitable research project;
- whether they are able to supervise the project;
- whether they have space for you.
- Once you have secured a supervisor and decided on a project, complete the online application form.
- Once you have returned your application form, you will be notified of your acceptance into the program and given further instructions on how to complete your enrolment. If at any stage through the Honours Program you wish to change to part-time, you must advise the School immediately, so the course code can be changed accordingly
- International students who are not current UQ students need to apply to enrol in the program through the International Education Directorate at UQ - International student application form.
